Big Troppy – Always on our minds
Genre: Pop Punk, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock
American culture has dominated the lives of most of the people alive today. There’s no way to avoid it! Trust me, I’ve tried. It’s everywhere and in everything, and unless you plan to learn a Scandinavian language and embrace hygge, you’re stuck with it.
This is kind of good and mostly bad. When it comes to rock music, America was always the place where bands went to “make it”. Consequently, most of these bands felt compelled to change their sounds and image to cater to American audiences. It’s all good, but mostly sad because this goes against the pop tradition that many nations have built for themselves.
Big Troppy’s Always on our minds digs into the bag of tricks of British guitar pop songs. Quick, clever lines about youth, sex, and booze are thrown against guitars strummed as if trying to extinguish the fire of the guitar strings. Big Troppy stands for classic English guitar pop, and the world is a better place for it.

English indie punk group Big Troppy recently released a new single. Always On Our Minds is their third single that announces the upcoming debut EP release and the second single this year. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that the band showcases admiration towards indie and punk rock sound, but some other music genres are lurking around in the mix as well. Besides these two dominant elements, Big Troppy incorporates the elements of skater rock, pop-punk, power pop, alternative rock, and rock’n’roll. Therefore, Always On Our Minds carries qualities borrowed from so many complementary subgenres of rock music, but in the end, it sounds compact, fresh, and unique.
Always On Our Minds unquestionably stands out with some catchy, cheerful, energetic punk rock riffs. However, these riffs are not the only quality of this band. Big Troppy paid a lot of attention to the lead vocal lines, singalongs, and the rhythm section as well, so the entire song could operate as the singular sonic organism. Their admiration towards many music subgenres unquestionably played a significant role while assembling this track. Therefore, Always On Our Minds offers a unique listening experience that will probably indulge those listeners into melodic punk rock the most.

Big Troppy is a four-piece punk rock band from Bermingham who started their career in 2020, they released 3 singles off their upcoming ep so far and we’ll be reviewing their latest single “Always on Our Minds” today. “Always on Our Minds” is a fast, energetic punk rock tune yet, it has lots of melody in its main riff. The drums intro was a smart move, it’ll grab your attention and make you receive the main riff with total anticipation till they hit you with the verse that has a full-of-life vocal melody. As a matter of fact, the vocal melody throughout the song is remarkable, especially the sing-along chorus, it’ll work perfectly as an opener in gigs or on the record. It’s overall enjoyable and will keep you moving and the way they played that melodic solo at the end and took it from there to that headbanger outro was pretty cool and surprising. “Always on Our Minds” is a dynamic and energetic release that’ll keep you hooked till the end, looking forward to the whole ep.
